U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan he intends to discuss trade and military cooperation. He also expressed readiness to consider resuming deliveries of fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, NBC News reports.

Answering a journalist’s question about whether the United States intends to sell F-35 aircraft to Turkey, Trump recalled that during his first presidential term he removed Ankara from the F-35 program after Turkey purchased a Russian air defense system.

“The issue with the F-35 is a decision we still have to make,” Trump said, adding that “we have a very good relationship.”

“Now our relations with Turkey are better, and in many respects Turkey has shown far greater loyalty than some other countries from which we expected such loyalty. Therefore, this is something we are prepared to consider,” he said, also praising the F-35 fighter jets highly.

“Certainly, this is something we will consider,” Trump added.
