Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, following another round of claims by U.S. President Donald Trump over Greenland, said Copenhagen is ready to defend its territory and reminded of its "clear position" on the matter. This was reported by European Pravda.

She stressed that "Greenland is not for sale" and expressed hope that all of Denmark’s allies would understand this. The prime minister called on the United States to take into account the position of the Greenlanders themselves to remain part of Denmark.

"We are ready to defend every meter of NATO territory, including our own. At the same time, one of the reasons we created NATO many years ago was the idea that if something happens to one of us, all the others must support them," Frederiksen said.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to annex the island to the United States. In January, he spoke of plans to establish control over the territory to ensure national security.
