Pro-government media in Azerbaijan reported that the process of Armenian Genocide recognition by Israel has allegedly been suspended.

In particular, the Oxu.az newspaper noted that the decision of the Israeli government to recognize the Armenian Genocide has caused concern in Baku. The Azerbaijani foreign ministry called this decision a politicization of historical events and called on Israel to reconsider its decision.

As Oxu.az noted, allied relations with Turkey remain one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. Therefore, Baku expected that the position on this issue would correspond to the approach of Ankara, for which the topic of recognition of the Armenian Genocide is of particular importance.

As per Oxu.az, Azerbaijan’s principled position on this matter did not go unnoticed in Israel. After some time, the discussion about the expediency of the Israeli government's aforementioned decision spread among Israeli experts, politicians, and leading media outlets. As the aforesaid Azerbaijani newspaper noted, many participants in this discussion came to the conclusion that this initiative does not stem from Israel's national interests and could complicate relations with its key regional partners.
