One of the people injured in a major fire at a waste processing facility in Aspropyrgos, western Athens, has died at KAT Hospital, Kathimerini reports.

The man suffered severe burns and was one of three people most seriously injured in the blaze, which broke out on Thursday morning on the premises of the processing facility.

In total, 11 people required medical assistance after the fire. Among the injured were people with burns and symptoms of smoke inhalation.

Two patients with severe burns were placed on mechanical ventilation at Thriasio Hospital. Later, some of the injured were transferred to Attikon Hospital and then to KAT.

The fire completely destroyed the facility. Due to the heavy smoke, a thick plume spread over nearby areas. Fire service specialists are investigating the cause of the blaze.
