The United States is carrying out strikes on Iran in order to force Tehran to return to negotiations, US President Donald Trump said.

"We will destroy all their bridges, all power plants, if they do not agree to negotiations," he said in an interview with Fox News, commenting on the course of the military operation.

Trump also warned that the US military would continue striking Iran this week. "We are hitting them today, will continue tomorrow, and then the next day," he explained.

"Next week it will be the turn of bridges and power plants," Trump said during the interview, adding that energy facilities are the final target of the planned strikes.

At the same time, Trump said that representatives of Washington and Tehran continue to remain in contact.

"About an hour ago," Trump replied when Fox News asked when the last contacts with the Iranian side had taken place. The president noted that during these contacts Tehran was once again advised to make a deal with Washington. "You had better make a deal. Otherwise, you will have nothing left," he explained.

Trump again stated that the strikes on Iran would continue until he himself decides that Washington's goals have been achieved. "This will continue until I decide that it is enough," he said.

In Trump's assessment, Iran still retains some military capabilities. "However, there are not many of them," the US president added.

He also repeated that he does not believe the Iranian leadership's statements that it is not seeking to obtain nuclear weapons. "They are lying, and in fact they are lying about absolutely everything," he said.
