Ukraine and the European Union have signed the first document which, according to Volodymyr Zelensky, will form a broad agreement on drones (the so-called “Drone Deal”), the BBC reports.

The president of Ukraine said that he had agreed to conclude the deal during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived in Kyiv.

“Today there is the first document laying the foundation for the Drone Deal — a major defense agreement between Ukraine and the European Union,” the president of Ukraine said. “This is truly a historic step in our relations. And next we expect financial support from the EU for our anti-ballistic missile program.”

Von der Leyen clarified that the European Union intends to allocate €1 billion for drone production in Ukraine from the €90 billion loan that the EU is providing to Kyiv.
