Russia and Azerbaijan have resolved all issues related to the crash of the AZAL passenger plane, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"This year, thanks to agreements reached at the highest level and the work of our governments and ministries, all issues related to the consequences of the crash of the AZAL passenger plane on December 25, 2024, have been resolved," Lavrov said during talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

The Embraer 190 operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), which was flying from Baku to Grozny, crashed on December 25, 2024, near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. According to the airline, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on board. Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations said 29 people survived; according to the Russian Embassy, nine of them were Russian citizens. In total, according to the passenger lists, there were 16 Russian citizens on board. On July 19, 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Baku insists on compensation payments to the families of those killed and to those injured in the plane crash. In addition, Aliyev said that documents were being prepared to file a lawsuit against Russia in international courts.
