YEREVAN. – The opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) member Republic Party Chairman Aram Sargsyan is renouncing his National Assembly (NA) seat and wishing success to the ANC. Sargsyan himself stated this during a press conference on Friday; he also did not rule out the possibility of leaving the ANC.

Sargsyan was third in the ANC’s proportional list for the May 6 NA elections, but he had already announced about giving up his parliamentary mandate during the campaign season.

If Aram Sargsyan renounces his NA seat, former Military Prosecutor Gagik Jhangiryan will become an MP through the ANC’s list. Earlier, ANC leader and Armenia’s First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan likewise had announced of giving up his parliamentary mandate, and, as a result, former PM Hrant Bagratyan will become an NA deputy.
