Fighting continues against a fire 50 km west of Oslo that media are calling the largest in the country since World War II. The blaze, which broke out the previous day, has already destroyed more than 100 homes in the village of Krokstadelva and spread to a nearby forest, according to media company NRK.

Twelve fire engines and two helicopters are operating at the scene, with four more firefighting helicopters on the way. About 400 local residents have been evacuated. Ten people suffered smoke inhalation, and two were taken to hospital. One police officer sustained minor injuries, DW reports.

Against the backdrop of extremely hot and dry weather in early July, wildfires also broke out in Spain, France, Portugal, and Greece. Dozens of people were killed, thousands were evacuated, and thousands of hectares of vegetation were destroyed.
