Nine people were poisoned by chlorine fumes in a swimming pool in Italy, and another 50 were evacuated, the Roma Today portal reported.

“A large amount of chlorine leaked from the pool pump. About 20 minutes later, those present, including several children, began complaining of discomfort from inhaling the substance,” the publication said.

It is уточняется that the nine injured, including four children aged 10 to 15, were taken to local medical facilities in moderate condition. A five-year-old boy was hospitalized at Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome in serious condition, but his life is not in danger.

According to the portal, all of the victims were found to have breathing problems caused by exposure to chlorine. For safety reasons, about 50 people were evacuated from the building.

It is noted that the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing. The sports facility area has been secured and placed at the disposal of the prosecutor’s office.
