Countries acting as mediators between Iran and the United States have proposed introducing a 10-day ceasefire to discuss ways to restore the temporary agreement. Reuters reported this, citing an Iranian source.

According to the news agency, “the mediators conveyed to Iran a proposal to de-escalate the war with the U.S., which provides for a 10-day ceasefire.”

The latest round of escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran began on July 8, when the United States struck Iranian territory for the first time since Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding. The U.S. said the attack was in response to a strike on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of the truce with Iran.

Tehran responded by striking American targets across the Middle East, including in Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.
