The United States is increasing the number of military aircraft in the Middle East amid a sharp rise in tensions with Iran.
According to CNN, citing a source, the US plans to redeploy additional F-16 and F-35 fighter jets from bases in Europe, as well as additional refueling aircraft.
The additional resources could expand the range of options available to President Donald Trump as he weighs further steps amid the escalating conflict.
Last week, Trump held a briefing outlining options for intensifying the war. In particular, he considered the possibility of seizing Khark Island — Iran’s key export hub — or carrying out bombing strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in the Pickaxe Mountain area.
At the same time, Trump has not completely ruled out seeking a diplomatic solution: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier that the door remains open for a return to the negotiating table.
