The US State Department warned American citizens around the world of the need to “exercise increased caution” because Iran may strike US facilities and interests abroad.

“Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex and retains the potential for unpredictable developments,” the State Department said in a statement.

“US diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have already been targets of attacks. Iran and the groups it supports may strike other American facilities abroad, as well as locations associated with the United States and US citizens worldwide,” the document emphasizes.

The US foreign policy agency also noted that Americans currently in the Middle East “should exercise caution, remain especially vigilant, and be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and transportation disruptions.” Those outside the region are advised to “reconsider travel plans to the Middle East and transit through it.”
