Discussions on the reform of Armenia’s electricity market and the regulation of electricity storage began on July 21 at the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia (PSRC) with the participation of European Union experts.

The event is being held within the framework of the “EU4Energy” program, implemented under the initiative “Promoting Clean Energy Transition and Connectivity in Eastern Partnership Countries.”

Welcoming the participants, PSRC Chairman Mesrop Mesropyan emphasized the importance of cooperation with the European Union and other international partners in the ongoing reform process of Armenia’s electricity market.

According to Mesropyan, such formats contribute to the development of modern regulatory solutions, the introduction of international best practices, and the sustainable development of the sector.

The head of the Armenian office of the EU4Energy program, Armin Byum, also delivered welcoming remarks, highlighting the importance of Armenia-EU partnership in the energy sector and the work being carried out within the framework of the program.

During the discussions, the results of activities implemented under the EU4Energy program will be presented. These include an assessment of Armenia’s Law on Energy, mapping and prioritization of related secondary legislation, possible harmonization of Armenian legislation with the legal framework of the Energy Community, and the development of regulations for the electricity storage sector.

The event aims to deepen cooperation between Armenia and the European Union in the energy sector and support the development and implementation of effective, modern regulations aligned with European best practices.
