Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed US President Donald Trump’s statement that approval of an agreement with Saudi Arabia in the field of nuclear energy should depend on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords.

“As President Trump said, Saudi Arabia’s accession to the Abraham Accords would be a historic step forward toward peace in the Middle East,” the statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office said.

Netanyahu’s office noted that joint actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, as well as the weakening of Tehran-backed groups, had created conditions for expanding the process of normalizing relations between Israel and Arab countries.

Earlier, Trump said that an agreement between Washington and Riyadh on the development of nuclear energy would be approved only if Saudi Arabia joined the Abraham Accords.

On July 22, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud signed the relevant agreement. The document has already been submitted to the US Congress for review and provides for long-term cooperation, opening access for American companies to participate in the development of Saudi nuclear energy.
