Iraqi authorities have denied reports that Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi, during a visit to Tehran, conveyed a U.S. ceasefire proposal to the Iranian leadership. This was stated in a statement by the press service of the head of the Iraqi government.
The statement notes that the information published on July 23 in The New York Times is groundless and does not correspond to reality.
The press service also urged the media to rely on official sources, maintain accuracy, and refrain from spreading unverified information citing anonymous sources.
Earlier, The New York Times, citing sources, reported that Tehran had allegedly rejected Washington’s ceasefire proposal, which, according to the newspaper, the Iraqi prime minister conveyed to the Iranian leadership during a visit to the capital of the Islamic republic.
