Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Estonia asked the European Commission to take additional measures to protect their economies amid a decline in tourist flows.

This was reported by Politico, citing a letter sent by the countries to the European Commission.

The document notes that the geopolitical situation and security concerns have had a significant impact on tourism development in the eastern border regions of these states.

“In most of these regions, tourist flows have declined significantly,” the letter says.

At the same time, the countries did not specify exactly which threats affected the decline in tourism or how much the number of visitors had changed.

Earlier, Reuters reported that tourists had begun canceling trips en masse to eastern areas of Latvia amid reports of the regular appearance of Ukrainian drones in the country’s airspace.
