At least 14 people were killed in a suicide attack on a checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan.

This was reported by the Xinhua news agency, citing the country's security services.

According to the agency, the incident occurred in the Tank district. A vehicle crashed at high speed into the checkpoint, after which a powerful explosion completely destroyed the site.

Among the dead were nine military personnel, four police officers, and an employee of the forestry department. At least 24 more people were injured, most of them military personnel.

The injured were taken to hospitals. Rescue services continue clearing the rubble, under which, it is presumed, three more military personnel may still be trapped.

After the explosion, security forces killed three militants. No extremist group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
