In France and Spain, wildfires have forced more than 300,000 people to leave their homes and holiday accommodations, The Guardian reports.

France has been hit hardest by the wildfires, with about 42,000 hectares of land burned.

About 55,000 people were ordered to leave villages around Bordeaux in the Gironde region overnight.

In Spain, more than 90,000 people were evacuated from areas around Madrid and Ávila. In addition, Spanish authorities ordered a new evacuation in the Toledo area, southwest of Madrid.
