The suspect in the attack on participants of a gay pride parade in Berlin was likely shot dead by police, DW reports.

This happened in Berlin’s Spandau district, Der Spiegel and rbb report, citing police sources.

Spiegel, citing security officials, уточняет, that this was Abdul B., a 21-year-old German citizen.

According to police, he drove a car into pride participants in Berlin on the evening of July 25, after which he attacked passersby with a machete.

As a result of the attack, 29 people were injured and one woman was killed. Germany’s Interior Ministry says it was an Islamist terrorist attack.

The man had previously been sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison for preparing an attack, but his sentence was later suspended; prosecutors appealed that decision. According to investigators, the young man had previously tried to travel to Syria to join the terrorist group Islamic State.
