U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to meet in Washington on Tuesday, a White House representative said.
A Ukrainian source told Reuters that Zelensky is interested in traveling to the United States, but his team is awaiting official confirmation from the White House.
The source added that Ukrainian and U.S. officials discussed a proposal for a ceasefire in the air, which will be presented to the Russian authorities as part of a new round of peace proposals aimed at ending the war that began in 2022 with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The source said that Ukraine had previously approached Russian President Vladimir Putin with ceasefire proposals, but those proposals were rejected. Some officials believe that pressure on the Russian economy from ongoing Ukrainian drone and missile strikes could soften Putin's position.
