The Peace Council, created to settle the situation in the Gaza Strip, expects that a new system for governing the Palestinian enclave can begin to be introduced within the coming months. A corresponding statement by the body was posted on its page on X.

"International stabilization forces will play a decisive role in expanding the volume of humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. In the coming months, these efforts will translate into concrete steps to introduce a new governance model, ensure security, and create economic opportunities," the text says.

Earlier, Israel’s security cabinet made a decision that allows for the deployment of an international military contingent in the Gaza Strip. The Peace Council’s High Representative for Gaza, Nikolay Mladenov, said he approves of this decision and expects the swift deployment of the international contingent and the disarmament of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Peace Council charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos; the council was created as part of efforts to settle the situation in the Gaza Strip. Washington said that other states had also joined the organization. The Peace Council was formed in accordance with an agreement between Israel and Hamas to govern Gaza, but it is also expected to work on preventing and resolving conflicts in other regions. The transition from the first to the second stage of the Gaza settlement process, including the transfer of power in the enclave to a specially created technocratic committee, is currently complicated by the issue of disarming Hamas formations.
