In Lithuania, summer natural disasters damaged 50,000 hectares of crops. This was stated on the air of the national radio station LRT by Martynas Rusteika, a representative of the insurance company VH Lietuva.

“We received reports of seasonal natural disasters and possible insurance incidents from 43 out of 51 rural municipalities. Owners of about 50,000 hectares of agricultural land faced problems of one kind or another caused by weather anomalies,” he said.

In total, 2.9 million hectares of land are classified as agricultural land in Lithuania. However, this does not mean that all of it is cultivated. This figure reflects the officially approved status of the plots — land designated for agricultural use.

VH Lietuva has paid €1 million in insurance compensation to farmers and agricultural enterprises. According to Rusteika’s forecast, after the harvest is completed, this amount will increase to €6 million.
