Iraq can increase oil supplies to Turkey to up to 1 million barrels per day. This was stated by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Anadolu reports.

During a joint press conference, Erdogan clarified that the Iraqi side is considering the possibility of supplying oil in such a volume, to which al-Zaidi confirmed: “Yes, that is correct — 1 million.”

The Iraqi prime minister noted that his first official visit to Turkey is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, including cooperation in energy, transport, education, water resources, and the implementation of the Development Road project — a large-scale transport corridor intended to connect the Gulf countries with global markets through Iraqi territory.

“Our visit is not just a protocol event, but evidence of strengthening relations that go back centuries,” al-Zaidi said.

He called the Development Road project a symbol of the two countries’ economic partnership, comparing it to a “third river” that is meant to complement Iraq’s two main rivers — the Tigris and the Euphrates.

“Geography gave us two rivers. Now we want a third — a river of the economy, and that river, of course, is the Development Road,” the Iraqi prime minister said.
