Turkey’s European Affairs Minister Egemen Bagis hopes that newly elected President Francois Hollande will open a fresh page in relations with Ankara.

Ankara also hopes that, unlike Nicolas Sarkzoy, he will support Turkey’s EU bid, Bagis said in an interview with AFP.

According to the Minister, France can become one of the champions of Turkish integration in the EU.

However, the agency recalls that Hollande had noted that Turkey would not become an EU member during his five-year term as the road to EU membership is long.

Francois Hollande won France’s presidential runoff on May 6.
