In the city of Twin Falls in the U.S. state of Idaho, a shooting occurred near an In-N-Out Burger restaurant, leaving three people dead and seven others injured, some of them in critical condition, the Associated Press reports.

According to police, the incident took place in the afternoon of August 1 in a busy shopping district. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene discovered the body of the suspected shooter not far from the restaurant. Authorities have not yet clarified whether he is among the dead.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said there is no longer any threat to the public. The identity of the attacker and the motives for his actions are being established.

Witnesses said that an armed man with an AR-style rifle opened fire near the restaurant. According to one witness, another man armed with a handgun began firing back. Footage published from the scene also shows the suspect approaching a vehicle with a long gun.

At the time of the shooting, customers and staff were inside the restaurant. One witness said he saw an employee trying to carry a wounded female colleague with a gunshot wound to the chest out of the parking lot. Other eyewitnesses reported that after the first shots were fired, restaurant staff ordered customers to lie on the floor, after which people began fleeing the building in panic.
