Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev stated in an interview with CNN Turk that the opening of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” will create new transport opportunities for Turkey and Azerbaijan.

According to him, Azerbaijan has almost completed the construction of respective transport infrastructure. The construction of the highway and railway from Baku to Zangelan and the Armenian border is in the final phases. In addition, the Nakhchivan railway line has been restored.

Hajiyev recalled that Turkey is building a new railway line between Kars and Igdir, adding that it will become part of the new transport network in the region.

“If the Zangezur Corridor is opened, it will be possible to reach Baku from Istanbul by car or train. It is not such a distant prospect. Active diplomatic work and infrastructure construction continue," Hajiyev said.

Also, he claimed in the interview that Armenia has undertaken a joint commitment with the US to complete the construction of the missing section of about 42 kilometers. According to Hajiyev, after the completion of this work, new opportunities for transportation and trade will open up.
