More than 10,000 residents Ceuta gathered on Sunday to protest against the Spanish central government's actions amid a massive migration crisis that has seen more than 70,000 migrants arrive in the Spanish enclave from Africa in the past week, protest organizers said, Euronews reports. The number of participants was around 5,000, according to official figures from the national police.

Despite a call for unity from the city's four religious communities—Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu—and a request from Ceuta’s mayor-president Juan Jesus Vivas to take part in the demonstration regardless of nationality, the slogans and symbols of the demonstrators showed a clear protest against the Spanish central government.

"We are not going to give up, we will resist and together, united, we will overcome this. But it is clear that we cannot do it alone: we need the solidarity of the rest of Spain, and we need the state to fulfill its obligations. But we believe that it will happen,” Vivas stated.

This time the rally took place in the Plaza de la Constitucion. At various times, the participants chanted the following slogans: “[Spanish Prime Minister Pedro] Sanchez, resign!”, “Ceuta is Spain!”, “Deport illegals!”, and also waved the flags of Spain and Ceuta, with the Spanish flags being significantly more numerous.
