Given the ongoing regional instability in the Middle East and the strategic importance of the Golan Heights for Israel's security, the Colombian government recognizes Israel's sovereignty over this territory, as well as the right of that state to defend itself against external threats, Colombian foreign ministry noted in a statement.

"For decades, Israel has faced constant security challenges along its borders. These threats have intensified significantly in recent years, culminating in the horrific terrorist attacks of October 7, which highlighted the seriousness and evolving nature of the threats facing the Israeli people.

In the context of regional security, Colombia recognizes that maintaining Israel's control and sovereignty over the Golan Heights is a crucial component of its national defense and ability to protect its citizens.

With this decision, Colombia reaffirms its commitment to the search for a stable and lasting peace in the Middle East," the Colombian foreign ministry added in its statement.
