An Armenian man by the name of Agop Degirmencioglu, 64, was killed in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul, Turkey, reports the Istanbul-based Armenian Agos weekly.

The murder was reported when a call was received that there was a bad smell in a building.

Police officers who went to the scene found the dead body of the deceased with stab wounds.

Police detained Mehmet Sh. T., 45, in connection with the murder. He confessed to killing Degirmencioglu as a result of a dispute over rent. He claimed that Degirmencioglu had seriously insulted him, which is why he had killed him.

Celal Kilic, a resident of the same building, told reporters that he had known Degirmencioglu for 30 years. He emphasized that Degirmencioglu had never harmed anyone, and moreover, he had taken pity on the man and rented him a room without even asking for money.
