The Forty Children Armenian Church in the Iskenderun district of Hatay Province in southern Turkey is being renovated, Ermenihabar.am reports.

This church suffered significant damage as a result of the 7.6-7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023. The church was built in 1876

Yusuf Tabas, chairman of the board of directors of the Forty Children Armenian Church Foundation, announced that the renovation will be carried out with the assistance of 5 million liras ($105,000) provided by the state.

The church altar was damaged and destroyed after the quake.

Tabas said that the church will be completely closed for religious services at the end of this week.

The renovation will include a roof replacement, a floor replacement, and a solution to the existing drainage problem. Also, the altars will be rebuilt, and necessary work will be done to restore the appearance of the walls that need repair.

The church’s adjacent structures and shops, which provide the church’s source of income, will also be renovated.
