Armenia has always been a supporter of deepening economic ties across CIS and EurAsEC, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said in an article “Armenia is looking at Europe” published in Russian newspaper Vedomosti.

“CIS has survived a difficult stage in the development, the apathy and lack of confidence in the future. However, confirmation of integration process was signed last year in St. Petersburg, Russia has recently ratified the agreement on free trade zone within the CIS,” Premier writes..

Sargsyan considers that in a changing configuration of global markets the countries must build a new format of relations which would create favorable conditions for economic entities.

“Thinking about the future, we must constantly upgrade the institutions that are able to form a convenient framework for the integration process. It is important to take joint steps to help lagging countries to disclose their potential for economic growth,” Prime Minister writes.

At the same time, speaking of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Tigran Sargsyan noted that Armenia’s joining the union is senseless due to geopolitical reasons - there is no common border with Russia, Kazakhstan or Belarus.

“However, on the platform of this organization other forms of mutually beneficial cooperation may be established. We have proposed to develop a special form of cooperation between Armenia and the Union. The issue is being discussed,” he writes.
