The Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: The incidents of deaths of soldiers in non-combat conditions in the army are the ones that anger the [Armenian] public the most. And yesterday's incident, when one of the soldiers who fell under a truck had died, the condition of two [others] was very serious, the others were injured, caused a wave of demands for the resignation of the defense minister [Suren Papikyan].
The severe run-over and the incident of a death that occurred at the Chambarak military unit on August 20 could be crucial for Suren Papikyan. Especially the news about the brutal details of the incident caused a wave of great discontent among the public.
Our source in the MoD says that great dissatisfaction has arisen in the army and in the MoD, among the military also against the minister, since it is obvious he is unable to manage this complex and responsible system. We learned that the parents of the servicemen are upset particularly by the Chambarak incident, with one of them announcing that he will sue the ministry [of defense].
