The US Geological Survey (USGS) will soon change the name of Lake Ontario in its official documents to Lake America, the White House said, citing a letter from USGS Director Ned Mamula.

"As of 4:30 pm today the U.S. Geological Survey has officially designated the former Lake Ontario to be renamed as Lake America in all official USGS electronic documents. The change will begin occurring in printed documents over the next several days," the White House said in a statement Thursday on X.

It was added that this change has also been made official in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).

Earlier, President Donald Trump announced that the US authorities were renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, and this decision takes effect immediately. According to him, all the necessary documents for such a renaming have already been completed.
