Democratic Party members at the House of Representatives of the US Congress are planning legislation to counteract the executive order President Trump signed Thursday redesignating Lake Ontario— located on the border with Canada—as "Lake America," Axios reports.

House member Tim Kennedy (D-N.Y.), who co-chairs the bipartisan Northern Border Caucus, told Axios in a text message that he is "working on a bill" to respond to Trump's order.

House Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), the chair of House Democrats' messaging arm, told Politico she also plans to introduce a bill reversing the executive order.

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that the US authorities were renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, and this decision will take effect immediately. According to him, all the necessary documents for such a renaming have already been completed. And the US Geological Survey has pledged to change the name of the lake in its official documents in the near future.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, however, has condemned the US decision and stressed that the Canadian authorities will not take this initiative into account.
