The first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, the highest coordinating body established under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed by Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, was held in Istanbul on Monday, Turkish media report.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the parties agreed on the official name of this alliance: Mecca Defense Alliance. "With the signing of this agreement, the beginning of the formation of a fundamentally new security architecture and multilateral cooperation in our region is being laid.

The alliance is initially created as an open structure intended for further expansion. We are convinced that this union will contribute to strengthening stability and consistently reducing the level of uncertainty in the region.

"[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu, who has become a common enemy of humanity, the international community and global stability, the perpetrator of genocide, is not a figure to be taken seriously.

It would be a deep mistake to view this threat solely in the context of Turkey's interests," the Turkish foreign minister noted.
