Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday met with Daiga Mierina, Speaker of the Saeima (parliament) of Latvia, in Riga.

The meeting was also attended by Gunars Kutris, Head of the Group for Promoting Cooperation with the Parliament of Armenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The interlocutors noted with satisfaction the growing dynamics in the development of relations between Armenia and Latvia. The strong commitment to promote cooperation in domains important for the sustainable development of the two countries, including economy and energy, was emphasized.

The meeting highlighted as well the importance of ensuring the continuity of active cooperation between the friendship groups in the parliaments of Armenia and Latvia as well as the parliamentary platform in consistently developing interaction within the Armenia-Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) format.

Mirzoyan and Mierina touched also upon the strategic agenda for the Armenia-EU partnership. Among other areas, the importance of making the best use of the existing mechanisms aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience was stressed.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the dynamically changing regional realities, too. “The establishment of peace has created unprecedented opportunities for the development of regional connectivity, and Armenia is making every effort to develop the network of infrastructure and effectively realize these opportunities,” Minister Mirzoyan noted in this regard.

In addition, views were exchanged on the further institutionalization of peace.

Humanitarian issues were discussed, too.
