Agnesa Khamoyan, a member of the opposition “Armenia” Faction in parliament, predicts major developments in and around Armenia in the coming months and year.

During Tuesday’s press conference, referring to Monday’s statement by the European Commission spokesperson, according to which the establishment of a visa-free regime between Armenia and the EU by 2029 is unlikely—in the case when the Armenian government’s program envisages having a visa-free regime by that date, Khamoyan noted that she is glad that European officials are directly exposing the lies of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to her, Armenia will not become a member of the EU in the next 10-20 years. The opposition MP said the assurances that visa liberalization will become a reality by the specified timeframe and Armenian citizens will be able to travel to EU countries without a visa are a lie.

“Our compatriots often equate the visa-free regime with EU membership,” Khamoyan noted, adding that during his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pashinyan had tried to maneuver, assuring that the law on Armenia’s rapprochement with the EU was adopted for the sake of Russia and Putin, otherwise a referendum would have been held in that regard.

As per the opposition lawmaker, quite major developments are expected in Armenia regarding the Declaration of Independence of the country, the adoption of a new constitution, and the enclave of Tigranashen village—which Pashinyan gave the Azerbaijani name “Kyarki” after the parliamentary elections on June 7.

According to Khamoyan, major developments will also occur in Armenian-Russian relations in the next 2-3 months.

“There is a need to wait for news on the EAEU. This situation, as evidenced by Putin’s words, cannot continue for long. There is uncertainty regarding the CSTO for a long time. It is not clear whether Armenia is leaving [it] or being expelled [from it]. Nikol Pashinyan is trying to buy time to repeat the CSTO scenario in the EAEU, maintaining uncertainty and trying to reorient the direction of [Armenia’s] exports towards the EU,” the opposition MP noted.

She added that important events can be expected in the coming months and during the year. Since Pashinyan knows that second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan will resist such a policy, he has decided to have him arrested—but Kocharyan will lead the resistance from prison, too.

“We do not agree with the agenda that Pashinyan is promoting together with [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev. Such objectives are unacceptable to us and the Armenian people,” Khamoyan added.
