Five people have died in a fire that broke out on the MV Jun Aster passenger ship off Coron Island in Palawan province of The Philippines, GMA News reported Thursday, citing the Philippine Coast Guard.
“Five persons have been reported dead, while 42 others have been rescued after a passenger ship carrying more than 100 passengers from Manila caught fire in waters off Coron on Wednesday night,” the report says
The Coast Guard said the ship’s manifest listed 117 passengers and 17 crew.
The Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and local government units have been dispatched to the scene.
Investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
Rescue operations are ongoing.
