YEREVAN. – By way exchange offices and bank branches, Armenia’s commercial banks have bought approximately US$ 75 million and sold close to $90 million this week, the Central Bank informs.
And the volume of foreign currency offers is higher than the current year’s average weekly indicators ($65-70 million).
Notwithstanding this, the rate in which the US dollar is gaining value in Armenia in the past one week is one of the highest rates since May 2009, as the dollar rose from AMD 396/$1 to AMD 399.5/$1 in just one week.
This also attests to the fact that all impulses for the exchange rate fluctuations come from the country’s stock exchange, where several times fewer transactions are conducted. A total of $17.5 million were traded at the stock exchange this week.
