Khachatur Andreasyan, the Mayor of Meghri, Armenia’s southernmost city, has been placed under pretrial detention, informs the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.

The mayor of Meghri, who was arrested Wednesday in connection with a criminal case under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Committee for the use of subsoil or natural resources without permission, and for the purpose of giving and receiving bribes, has been placed under pretrial detention, the committee reported.

Also, pretrial detention and house arrest have been applied as preventive measures to six other people who were also arrested Wednesday within the framework of the same criminal case, the committee added.

Eight people, including Meghri Mayor Khachatur Andreasyan, have been arrested along the lines of the aforesaid criminal case.
