The proposal to sign the protocol amending the Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism has been approved by Armenia. The relevant decision was made on Friday at the session of the Cabinet of the Armenian government.

The draft protocol was adopted by the CoE Committee of Ministers on July 9, 2025, and it has been open for signature since May 26, 2026. The document has already been signed by 11 CoE member states and the European Union.

The protocol provides greater legal clarity on the actions considered a “terrorism crime.”

The signing of this document will enable Armenia to confront modern terrorism challenges, taking into account the fact that new technologies have emerged in the fight against terrorism ever since the adoption of the aforesaid convention and its additional protocol.
