The US wants to focus on Iran's nuclear program in upcoming talks with Iran, not on restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to CNN.
"Trump administration officials have privately told those in the Gulf region that they want to refocus any future US-Iran negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program and not reopening the strait, according to three sources familiar with the matter," CNN reports.
Before the escalation of conflict in the region, the Strait of Hormuz was one of the key routes for global energy trade. About a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies used to pass through it.
