Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has confirmed that the meeting with other Gulf states scheduled for Monday has been canceled at Saudi Arabia’s request.

The cancellation was due to the ongoing escalation of tension in Yemen.

“Yes, that’s true. The meeting has been postponed at Saudi Arabia’s request. It’s related to what’s happening between them and Yemen,” Baghaei said during his weekly press briefing.

A meeting at the level of foreign ministers of the Gulf region countries was scheduled for Monday in Oman.

On September 11, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei had confirmed the Iranian side’s participation. According to him, this meeting, in addition to regional issues, was to discuss the results of the Iranian-Omani negotiations on determining safe routes for commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked since February 28 due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
