Entry and exit of the railway section passing through Armenia and connecting Turkey and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan will be carried out through Azerbaijani territory, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated, Azerbaijani media report.

According to him, this 42-kilometer section is part of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor.”

“Although it is the territory of Armenia, entry and exit will be carried out through Azerbaijan,” Bayramov said during a joint press conference with visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in Baku.

As per the Azerbaijani FM, negotiations on this section are underway between the US and Armenia, Planning should be completed in 2026, and the actual construction is planned to begin in 2027.

Bayramov noted that the construction of the motorway leading to the Armenian border has been completed in Azerbaijan by about 95%, and the railway project – by 75%. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by 2027.

Bayramov called the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” an important new direction of the Middle Corridor. According to him, the implementation of this project will enable to provide a transport connection between Europe and Turkey via Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani FM added that the work on the reconstruction of the railway has already started in Nakhchivan.
