Washington should not build Middle East policy based on Israeli interests if they do not coincide with American interests, US Vice President JD Vance said, VIN News reports.

 “We cannot let our Middle Eastern foreign policy be subservient to the state of Israel,” Vance said, speaking at a conference held by the All-In podcast.

According to him, Israel remains an important partner for the US in military technology and intelligence sharing, but allied relations do not mean the absence of disagreements.

Vance said that US President Donald Trump, in his opinion, more often than any other US president in the last 40 years, has shown a willingness to disagree with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he believes that the interests of Americans differ from the interests of the Israeli government.

As per Vance, Trump may also consider that Netanyahu is right on some issue from the point of view of Israeli interests, but at the same time has chosen a different path—based on US interests.

The US vice president emphasized that Washington’s relations with other allies should also be built, first of all, taking into account American interests. He cited NATO as an example.

In his words, the US will work together with other countries where their interests coincide, and will have different views on issues where they differ.

They will pursue America’s interests; that is the only way to conduct a rational foreign policy, the US vice president said.
