European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday will deliver her 2026 state of the European Union (EU) address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. This will be her second such address during her current five-year mandate in this capacity.

Ahead of the address, the European Commission has prepared an 88-page report, entitled “State of the Union 2026: From promise to progress: second year in office,” which sums up the main results of the Commission's activities during von der Leyen’ second year in office.

In the report, particular attention was paid to relations between the EU and the countries of the neighboring regions. In particular, the European Commission points to the holding of the first ever EU-Armenia summit. Within the framework of that meeting, the Armenia-EU partnership on connectivity was launched, aimed at developing transport, energy, and digital links.

The European Commission reports also on von der Leyen’s visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan in July. During the trip, the president of the European Commission announced a new package worth €200 million under the Global Gateway strategy to support the development of connectivity in the South Caucasus, as well as additional trade measures related to Armenia.

Thus, the report presents the Armenian direction in the broader context of the EU's policy in the South Caucasus, as an integral part of the EU's efforts to support peace, stability, and the development of regional ties.
