Germany and the European Union (EU) should not put Armenia before an artificial choice between Europe and Russia, German Bundestag (parliament) member Matthias Moosdorf told Izvestia.

The Bundestag members are raising the matter of a possible referendum on the matter. However, the decisive factor is that such a decision remains exclusively within the competence of the Armenian people, Moosdorf noted.

According to him, Germany and the EU should not put Armenia before an artificial choice between Europe and Russia.

He believes that Armenia’s “special strength” lies precisely in its political equidistance and its ability to maintain relations with the EU, Russia, and other partners at the same time.
