Armenia and the European Union (EU) have signed the partnership agreement on communications, they are working on the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan, which they hope will lead to visa-free travel for Armenian citizens to the EU very soon, head of the Delegation of the EU to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, said on Friday in Vanadzor, RFE/RL reports

It depends on when the action plan is implemented. So it is in the hands of the Armenian authorities, Maragos added, and noted that he is very confident that in the conditions of the progress they have seen, it will not be too late, and they are very actively working towards implementing it. He reminded that Armenia is currently the only country in the world with which the EU has a visa liberalization dialogue.

When asked how long it will take for this visa liberalization to become a reality, whether it could take just months, Maragos replied that “months” definitely not, because it takes more time, but he believes that the first phase will be the legislative one, and then the practical one, where they will see the results of the action plan, so Maragos hopes that it will not be too late.

The Armenian government has set a goal of 2029 for visa liberalization with the EU, the latter’s ambassador said, adding that they will see if they can keep that timeframe.
