The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has imposed a curfew in Kingisepp and Slantsy districts of the Leningrad region, bordering Estonia.

The curfew, which include various restrictions on movement, will be in effect until Saturday.

The FSB said these measures are necessary to prevent border violations and illegal migration, as well as to protect the “aquatic biological resources” of Lake Peipus.

Andris Viltsin, Estonia's border representative on the Russian border, said Tallinn was aware of the introduction of these restrictions in advance, although Russia had not officially notified it. According to him, hunting and carrying firearms without special permission have been temporarily banned on the Russian side, as well as traffic on the Narva river has been restricted.

The Police and Border Guard Board of Estonia, together with some other services, is monitoring the situation on the country’s eastern border, reports Delfi.
